With Romanesque splendour, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary towers over the sepia-toned landscape of Eritrea's capital, decorated with 20th-century architectural experimentation. From the Art Deco Cinema Impero and Fiat Tagliero service station to sombre tributes including the Tank Graveyard, there's plenty to see in this fascinating African city, but Asmara's idiosyncratic visuals are best discovered on casual strolls or gazed upon over Eritrean meals at street bars.
